MI GOOD FOOD SUMMIT 2018: AMPLIFYING VOICES FOR EQUITY

Good Food warriors gathered from all over the state of Michigan to share tools and resources to enhance progress towards healthy, equitable regional food systems. Participants networked with others and heard stories of success and opportunity taking place in Michigan. All worked to advance good food for everyone as we push toward the Michigan Good Food Charter goals for 2020.
KUNTRY COOKIN': BRINGING A WORLD OF POSITIVE CHANGE (AND A WHOLE LOT OF FLAVOR) TO MUSKEGON

Destinee Sargent and her business, Kuntry Cookin’, which she co-founded with her husband Kemmie Sargent, are at Muskegon's Taste and See event, an annual dinner tour that the nonprofit Community enCompass holds to showcase the work being done by local restaurants, youth, community leaders, and the nonprofit in Muskegon’s core city neighborhoods.

Takidia Smith, a local owner and lead grower at Fresh Beets spearheaded an initiative in Grand Rapids to provide exposure to a niche within the workforce and a goal of improving access to resources for low-access communities. Smith is actively encouraging community gardens and local CSAs, which are poised to have a substantial impact within the community.
